A position requiring little or no work but giving the holder status or financial benefit.
It's a word you've probably never heard of. But it's one you definitely know.
"Rest and vest. "Quiet quitting." "Big tech vacation."
In the Valley, plenty of people who have these kinds of jobs. You might even have one yourself!
The hardest part about tech is getting in. Getting the right credentials, networking, and spamming all that Leetcode-- It's honestly really hard. But once you scure spot on an engineering team, life is a cakewalk. They're practically begging you to stay. And life is good!
Honestly, if you just want peace in your life, then stick with it. Get that money. Ship some features (maybe). Make sure the machine runs nicely. You earned it.
But one added consideration: Globally speaking, talent is bimodal. You're either a genius or you're a bozo. By landing that job, you've proven you're on the right-hand side of the distribution. If you have this level of intelligence, then anything is possible for you. Really.
When you have a sinecure, your life will be controlled by people with great ambitions than you. Nobody will push you to be better. Your dreams will fade just as they do every time you wake up.
What's the most ambitious thing a person with your intellect could do with their life? You don't need to become a Great Person. But I'm saying you can be.
You can choose to take life easy. But also accept the fact you'll never amount to anything more than someone else's dream.
